Teverga new routes #3

January 10, 2019 by Roca Verde Climbing Leave a Comment

Happy new year everyone. As it’s now 2019 it would seem to be a good time to round up what’s been happening in 2018 and maybe a good place to start is the ever busy valley of Teverga. There’s plenty of new routes so I’m going to put them up in three posts…the next sectors are sectors that were started in 2018 La Isla and Mundo Perdido.

Croquis del Mundo perdido

Mundo Perdido is quite a big sector and has a wide range of grades and styles of routes, 6ª+ hasta 8ª+. It features typical Tevergan long grey slabs to overhanging red/brown limestone with the typical holds this rock produces and one great thing is the right hand part of this sector stays basically dry in winter. The approach is a steep 15 minute uphill hike!! La Isla is a short 5 two minutes from the road and at the moment is a much smaller and mainly features harder 7s. However, I’m pretty sure that soon there’ll be some more routes soon and in the easier grades too.

Like always these new routes are never the work of a single person and so it’s easier to thank everyone who is usually involved in new routing in Teverga so thanks go to Lolo, Miguelín, Berto, Hectorín, Moss, Mulero, Gali, Raúl, Josete, Jose Camino, Armando, Cesar, Junior, Pablo Martín, Tino, Javi López, Mariluz, Pablo, Diego, Dani, Anselmo, Richie, Javi Garzo, Brillan, Espolita and anyone else who’s helped!!

Como llegar a los sectores Río, Mundo perdido y La isla — Getting to the new sectors.

And remember if you do come to Teverga that all these routes are made possible by the work of the local climbing club so if you do stay in the parking area it’s worth remembering that you can make a donation at the club hut to help with bolts and bolting!!

Vías nuevas Teverganas #3 – Sector Río

January 9, 2019 by Roca Verde Climbing Leave a Comment

Teverga new routes #2

January 8, 2019 by Roca Verde Climbing Leave a Comment

Happy new year everyone. As it’s now 2019 it would seem to be a good time to round up what’s been happening in 2018 and maybe a good place to start is the ever busy valley of Teverga. There’s plenty of new routes so I’m going to put them up in three posts…and the next sectors are also sectors that was mainly finished in 2017; La Falda and La Galeria.

The new sectors..

These sectors in reality are an extension of Muro Techo – if you keep walking past the existing routes you will get to them in a minute more. La falda (the skirt) is the huge slab while Sector La galeria is the section of tough tufas which overhang the slab below. The routes in general are all quite intricate climbing and with a good spread of grades it’s a great place for a mixed ability group – it’s also worth noting that a 70m rope is needed for nearly all of these as they’re longer than they look. The routes in ‘the gallery’, La galleria, which start from the ‘salathe’ ledge are almost the exact opposite; short steep and generally quite brutal. They also put a bit of fear into the proceedings as, starting at 35 metres, the cruxes are at about 50 metres off the ground!!

Vías Nuevas Teverganas #2

January 7, 2019 by Roca Verde Climbing Leave a Comment

Teverga new routes #1

January 6, 2019 by Roca Verde Climbing Leave a Comment

Happy new year everyone. As it’s now 2019 it would seem to be a good time to round up what’s been happening in 2018 and maybe a good place to start is the ever busy valley of Teverga. There’s plenty of new routes so I’m going to put them up in three posts…and so the first sector is also a sector that was mainly finished in 2017 and has been popular for a year – especially as it’s a really good summer venue – Sector Rio.

Croquis de Sector Rio / Sector Rio new routes

This sector is easy to get to from the same parking as La cuesta and is situated on the right, on the other side of the river as you exit the tunnel into Teverga. It’s a crag of two parts; one a steep wall of about 30 metres which gives fingery wall climbing, while the other is a very slabby slab which is shorter but pretty brutal if you don’t like very difficult limestone slabs!!

Como llegar a los sectores Río, Mundo perdido y La isla — Getting to the new sectors.

The wall has about 18 routes and although the majority are in the 7s there’s a couple of easier routes too. All are steep and fingery and provide some great test-pieces and maybe the only negative is that the rock is not quite as good as in the rest of Teverga and there are a few small sections that you need to be careful on. As I said before this is a great summer sector as it never gets the sun – so watch out in winter!! The slab gets the occasional ray of sun and is a place for those who like slabs featuring difficult climbing on demanding rock – that’s not a unique experience for Teverga but the style maybe!
